Substantive Editing
Substantive editing is in-depth, comprehensive editing focused on structure, organization, clarity and content. This stage generally includes some reorganizing and rewriting. I give a comprehensive explanation of problem areas and ways I think you could solve them. I ask questions and there is usually a fair amount of back and forth. Substantive editing does not involve correcting grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, etc.; that would be done during the copy editing phase.
Fact Checking
Fact checking ensures factual accuracy, working links and a consistent style. I correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, usage and syntax. I also review any organizational or structural issues to ensure your document is clean and readable.
Copy Editing
Copy editing includes editing for grammar, punctuation, spelling and style consistency. I also provide sentence restructuring suggestions and word choice options as needed to strengthen and improve the clarity of your document. I review formatting as well as continuity and use of clear language. I do up to two rounds of edits here, so there is some back and forth at this stage of the process.
Proofreading
This is a last quality check and review of your document. I focus on spelling, grammar and punctuation, and I look at style elements such as headlines and fonts to ensure consistency. I go line by line to check for typos, errors and any inconsistencies in tone or editorial style. If there is a table of contents, I check that against the text.
Resume Editing
I proofread your content and address formatting issues so nothing keeps your resume from making a good first impression. I look at these elements:
Grammar
Tenses
Spelling
Punctuation
Sentence structure
Formatting
Redundancies
